Founded in 1994, our company is named for Smuttynose Island, one of the Isles of Shoals, a small, rugged archipelago that lies seven miles off the New Hampshire coast. Steeped in history and legend, the Isles of Shoals have been home to poets, pirates, ghosts, fishermen and harbor seals over the centuries. The Smuttynose Brewing Co. is a genuine craft brewery. Old Brown Dog Ale, winner of a Silver Medal at Denver's Great American Beer Festival, has been cited as a classic example of an American Brown Ale.
